Laurent Kueny
Direction Générale de l'Energie et du Climat
Directeur de l'Energie
Description
After training as a general engineer focused on energy issues, the first part of Laurent Kueny's career was devoted to nuclear safety oversight at the IAEA and the ASN, as Head of the Marseille Division and as Director of Industry and Transportation. After addressing the Fukushima accident from the ASN crisis center, where he was one of the leaders, Laurent Kueny was tasked with advising the Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations in Vienna and the Governor for France at the IAEA. This diplomatic position in Vienna allowed him to play an active role in the renegotiation of international agreements in the fields of nuclear safety and security between 2012 and 2015. In particular, he was involved in negotiating the Vienna Declaration on Nuclear Safety, in close collaboration with HE Raphaël Grossi (President of the Diplomatic Conference for the Review of the International Convention on Nuclear Safety). He then spent nearly five years working for an international group, Bureau Veritas (75,000 employees, 140 countries), where he held two Vice President positions, first in charge of inspection and control activities in the nuclear field. In early 2020, Laurent Kueny was working at the Directorate General for Internal Security (DGSI), where he led a team of 300 people specializing in cyber and digital sovereignty as Deputy Director.
